Goldie

Goldie is an older female medium-sized mixed breed. Goldie was found all alone out at the Schellborne rest-stop on HWY 93 about 39 miles outside of Ely, NV. in mid-November. Goldie was picked up by some Good Samaritans who were passing through and taken to the Ely Animal Control Facility. Sadly, Goldie’s five-day stray hold passed without a single person looking for her. Goldie appeared to be severely arthritic in her hind end and was hardly able to get it up off the ground. We knew we couldn’t leave her there, so BAARX pulled her, and we immediately took her to Dr. Robin Eldridge for an evaluation. Dr. Eldridge felt that the condition of her hind end was more likely due to an old neurological injury rather than arthritis, so Goldie was put on some medications to help, and she started showing improvement within the first 24 hours!

Two weeks after being taken in by BAARX, Goldie went to a very special foster home with Michelle and Michael Bodenheimer. Michelle is a Massage Therapist who also does Magnetic Therapy on both humans and animals. Michelle instantly started working her “magic” on Goldie, and Goldie improved more than anyone could have ever imagined!! Goldie started getting cases of the zoomies and was now “running” around with a new-found vigor!

Other than Goldie’s neurological issues, she appears to be in good health otherwise, so we are optimistic that with Michelle and Michael’s loving care, she will have many more “golden” years and zoomies left in her.

Today we had to say goodbye to a very special BAARX foster dog, Goldie.

Goldie came to BAARX after being found all alone out at the Schellbourne rest stop and taken to Ely Animal Control. Goldie had some pretty severe mobility issues and could barely get around. Once she was taken in by BAARX, she was taken to Dr. Robin Eldridge for an evaluation of her condition and to see what might be able to be done to help her. Dr. Robin diagnosed her with a neurological issue (unknown if it was something Goldie was born with or due to an old injury) and she was put on Rimadyl and Gabapentin. Goldie started showing improvement right away!

Goldie was only with BAARX for a few weeks when Mike & Michelle Bodenheimer stepped up to foster Goldie! Once in their care, Michelle started to perform her massage and magnetic therapy on Goldie, and Goldie improved even more…. while she still had an usual gate in her hind end, she was now running, playing and even catching cases of the zoomies! Due to the continued message and magnetic therapy that she received from Michelle; Goldie was able to be weaned off of all her meds and was still doing great!!

Michelle took Goldie to see Dr. Courtney at Steptoe Veterinary for a chiropractic adjustment to see if that could further help her with her mobility, and Goldie did seem to show some more improvement afterwards.

Goldie had so many happy moments with Mike & Michelle and was living her BEST life with the love and care she received from them!

Unfortunately, while we can often delay the progression of some medical issues, we can’t completely stop them. About a week ago Michelle let BAARX know that Goldie was not herself and was having a hard time with her hind end again, so she had put her back on her meds to see if they would help. A few days later Michelle let us know that the meds were not helping, only making Goldie sleep a lot, and so she wanted to get her back in to see Dr. Courtney to figure out what was going on and if there was anything that could be done. Today Mike & Michelle took Goldie in to see Dr. Courtney, and after an exam and X-rays, it was determined that her neurological issue had progressed to the point of having no deep pain response - the last thing to go with neurological issues according to Dr. Courtney. There really wasn’t anything that could be done to improve Goldie’s condition and she would just progressively get worse, so after talking it over and deciding that there was no way to continue to give Goldie QUALITY OF LIFE, the most important thing that we strive to give all the animals in our care, the decision was made to assist Goldie over The Rainbow Bridge.

The love and care that Goldie received from Mike & Michelle during her time with them is truly BEYOND measure, and we have NO doubt that the last few months of Goldie’s life that she spent with them were the absolute BEST times of her life!!!! BAARX cannot thank Mike & Michelle for all they did for Goldie - we are truly blessed to have them be a part of the BAARX family!!

Thank you Dr. Robin Eldridge for putting Goldie on the road to doing better and being able to enjoy life once again, and thank you Dr. Courtney Bellander for further assisting Goldie on that road, and for helping her cross The Rainbow Bridge when that time came!

Goldie touched many people in such a short amount of time and she will never be forgotten.
