Our Assistance Programs

Transport
Our Transport Program was started in 2018 as a way to prevent healthy, adoptable animals at our local Animal Control Facility from being euthanized due to lack of space. We have since expanded this program to include BAARX animals when they are not able to be adopted out locally, as well as the occasional privately owned pet that is in need of being rehomed. We network these animals in order to find no-kill rescues/shelters that can take them in, and then we transport them to those no–kill shelters where they are placed into their adoption programs. We deal with shelters & rescues all over Nevada, as well as a few outside of Nevada. Thanks in part to our Transport Program, no healthy, adoptable animals have been euthanized at Animal Control since we started this program! BAARX covers all of the fuel costs both ways for these transports.

Foster & Adopt
Our Foster & Adoption Program was started not long after our Transport Program. We originally started fostering animals for our local Animal Control Facility when they would reach or exceed their capacity for housing animals. We have since expanded to take in animals directly from a variety of other sources when we have the space and are able to. All animals that come into our Foster & Adoption program are given their age-appropriate core vaccines, rabies vaccine and spayed/neutered (if old enough). If they are not old enough for these procedures when they are adopted, BAARX will cover this expense when they are old enough (terms apply). Dogs are also microchipped. Any additional health issues/surgeries that the animals need are addressed and taken care of as well prior to being made available for adoption. Due to the small number of local potential adopters and a high number of animals in need of adoption, BAARX also sometimes transports our animals out when and if the opportunity or need should arise.

Pet Food Assistance
For 18 months through the Covid shutdown, BAARX operated a bi-monthly Pet Food Bank for owners in need to help keep pets in their homes and out of our local Animal Control Facility. Even though we are no longer doing a bi-monthly Pet Food Bank, we do have our Pet Food Assistance Program, which provides owners in need with temporary help feeding their pets.
Participants must fill out an application to qualify for this assistance.

Ownerless Animal Emergency Vet Care Program
When an animal is found sick or injured by Ely Animal Control or a Good Samaritan, these animals are often not able to get the vet care they need due to not having an owner to cover the expenses. With this program, BAARX pays for these expenses, allowing the animal to be seen by a veterinarian, and then pays for the needed veterinary care the animal needs (within our financial capabilities), whether that is to be kept comfortable until an owner can be located/found, immediate ER care to save the animals life, or to help the animal cross the Rainbow Bridge if that is deemed to be in the best interest of the animal.

Noodle's Fireworks Awareness Program
This is the newest program for BAARX. This program was named after a little dog named Noodle, who ran off from his home after being scared away by a fireworks event taking place in his neighborhood. His family was new to the area and were not aware that there would be fireworks that evening. Through this program BAARX works to help notify pet owners ahead of time as to when, where and what time fireworks events will take place in White Pine County so they can have a plan in place to secure their pets during these events, and to help prevent lost pets due to these events.

Rehoming Network Assistance Program
Being a foster-based program at this time, BAARX can’t always take in private animals that are in need of being rehomed. In these cases, we help the owners to get the word out about their animal through our Rehoming Network Assistance Program. This consists of social networking as well as private networking, and sometimes transporting these animals out when we can find a no-kill rescue/shelter willing to take them in.

Lost & Found Pet Assistance Program
Through the BAARX Lost & Found Pet Assistance Program we work to network both pets that have been lost/gone missing, as well as pets who have been found. We put the word out on social media as well as contacting local vets, groomers and other contacts in order to help get the word out and reunite pet and owner. In the event of a lost/missing pet, we will also help with boots on the ground in the search for them, as well as setting up and monitoring live traps when we have the resources to do so.
